Context
The Last Hour is a horror short film I made, officially as a school project. One character alone in the woods, an unknown number sending him messages, and no dialogue. The whole story is told through picture, light and sound.
The goal was an oppressive, claustrophobic feeling that pulls the viewer in and doesn't let go until the hour is over. There is nothing to sell here: the film itself is the piece.

Key design moments
Moment 01
Letting the phone speak
Without dialogue, the threat had to arrive somewhere. It arrives on his phone: messages from an unknown number, then a photo of him, taken from somewhere in the trees. The screen is composited into the shot, so the viewer reads each message at the same moment he does.
Moment 02
Staying close instead of cutting fast
Horror usually leans on fast cuts and jump scares. I went the other way: long takes, natural light and a camera that stays close to him, so the viewer can't look away. Sound design carries the tension the picture holds back.
04
Impact
It shows the other side of my work: building tension instead of explaining a product. Two minutes, one location, no dialogue, and everything rests on picture, light and sound.
05
Reflections
Without dialogue, every shot has to answer one question: what does he know right now? Planning the film around that question decided almost every cut.
